Essential betting concepts.
1. What is a sports betting odd?
An odd expresses the implied probability of an outcome and determines the potential return. At decimal odds of 2.00, a winning $100 stake returns $200 in total, including the stake.
Read the full answer →2. What is a sports bet?
A sports bet means staking money on an outcome or event. For example, you can bet on Uruguay to beat Brazil. The bet wins if the selected outcome occurs under the market rules.
Read the full answer →3. What is a sportsbook?
A sportsbook offers odds and betting markets on sporting events, accepts bets and settles them according to its rules.
Read the full answer →4. What is a favorite or an underdog?
The favorite has a higher implied chance of winning and usually shorter odds. The underdog has longer odds. Being the favorite does not guarantee a win.
Read the full answer →5. What is live betting?
Live or in-play betting takes place while a match is underway. Odds may change quickly and markets may be suspended.
Read the full answer →6. What is regulation time in sports betting?
Regulation time is the period used to settle a market. In soccer it normally includes 90 minutes plus stoppage time, but not extra time or penalties. Check each market’s rules.

Understand decimal, American and fractional odds.
1. What are decimal odds?
Decimal odds show the total return including the stake. A winning $100 bet at 2.50 returns $250, including $150 profit.
Read the full answer →2. What are American odds?
Positive odds show profit on a $100 stake: +150 means $150 profit. Negative odds show the stake required for $100 profit: -200 means staking $200. These equal decimal 2.50 and 1.50.
Read the full answer →3. What are fractional odds?
Fractional odds express profit relative to the stake. At 5/2, every $2 staked wins $5 profit. This equals decimal odds of 3.50.

Explore markets and outcomes.
1. What is a sports betting market?
A market is a set of outcomes you can bet on, such as match result, total goals, corners or cards. Each market has its own settlement rules.
Read the full answer →2. What is a Two-Way market?
A Two-Way market offers two selections. For total goals over/under 2.5: Over wins with 3 or more goals; Under wins with 2 or fewer. Only one can win.
Read the full answer →3. What is a Three-Way market?
A Three-Way market offers three selections. In soccer 1X2: 1 means the home team wins, X means a draw, and 2 means the away team wins. A draw is a separate outcome.
Read the full answer →4. What are Totals (Over/Under)?
Totals ask whether a statistic will finish above or below a line. Over 2.5 goals wins with 3 or more; Under 2.5 wins with 2 or fewer. Whole-number lines may allow a refund.

Common markets include Both Teams to Score (Yes/No); Double Chance (1X, X2, 12); Correct Score; First Team to Score; corners and cards; Half-Time/Full-Time; and player statistics such as goals, assists or shots. Availability and rules vary.

Learn how handicaps work.
1. What is a handicap in sports betting?
A handicap adds a virtual advantage or disadvantage to the score. With Uruguay -1.5, a 2–0 win covers the handicap, but a 1–0 win does not.
Read the full answer →2. What is an Asian handicap?
Asian handicap usually offers two selections and some lines allow refunds. With Uruguay -1.0: a 2–0 win wins, a 1–0 win refunds the stake, and a draw or loss loses. A -1.25 line splits the stake between -1.0 and -1.5.
Read the full answer →3. What is a European handicap?
European handicap usually has three outcomes after adjusting the score. With Uruguay -1: a 2–0 result becomes 1–0 (home win); 1–0 becomes 0–0 (draw); 0–0 becomes 0–1 (away win). Unlike Asian -1.0, the adjusted draw is a separate selection.

Understand implied probability, margins and Key.
1. What is implied probability?
Implied probability is the percentage represented by an odd. Lower odds mean higher implied probability. For decimal odds, calculate 100 ÷ odds: 1.50 = 66.67%, 2.00 = 50%, 4.00 = 25%. It is not a guarantee of the true probability.
Read the full answer →2. What is a sportsbook margin?
The margin is the excess above 100% when adding implied probabilities for all outcomes. With Two-Way odds of 1.60 and 2.20, the total is 107.95%, giving a mathematical margin of 7.95%. Odds Universal often uses 108% as a reference, equivalent to an 8% overround.
Read the full answer →3. What is the Key percentage?
In Odds Universal, Key is the sum of implied probabilities across a market. For 1.60 and 2.20 it is about 107.95%. Our reference tables use pairs near 108%, including 1.50/2.40, 1.55/2.30, 1.60/2.20, 1.65/2.10, 1.70/2.00, 1.75/1.95, 1.80/1.90 and 1.85/1.85. They are not all exactly 108%.

Understand mathematical arbitrage.
1. What is a surebet?
A surebet is a set of odds that can cover every possible outcome and yield a mathematical profit under ideal conditions. Changes in odds, limits and settlement rules can prevent the expected result.
Read the full answer →2. What is sports arbitrage?
Sports arbitrage compares prices from different bookmakers to cover every outcome in the same market. When the prices create a mathematical profit, the opportunity is called a surebet. Settlement rules must match.
Read the full answer →3. When does a surebet exist?
For a complete market with equivalent settlement rules: Key above 100% means no mathematical surebet; exactly 100% means no mathematical profit; below 100% indicates an opportunity. For odds 2.10 and 2.10, Key is 95.24%. Real execution risks remain.
Read the full answer →4. What is the difference between Two-Way and Three-Way surebets?
A Two-Way surebet covers two outcomes, such as Over and Under 2.5. A Three-Way surebet covers three, such as home win, draw and away win. Both require covering every outcome with Key below 100%.

1. What is a single bet?
A single bet contains one selection. A winning $100 bet at 1.80 returns $180 total, including $80 profit.
Read the full answer →2. What is a parlay bet?
A parlay combines two or more selections. Normally all must win. Decimal odds multiply: 1.50 × 2.00 = 3.00, so a winning $100 bet returns $300. Voided legs may change the calculation.
Read the full answer →3. What do won, lost and void bets mean?
A won bet meets the market conditions and pays out; a lost bet does not and loses the stake. A void or push returns the applicable stake. For Asian handicap -1.0, winning by exactly one goal results in a refund.
